The ingredients
Here is a quick lavender-orange-scented bath salt recipe. You will need the following ingredients and materials (you probably have some of them in your kitchen or bathroom cupboard):
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 2 cups Epsom salt
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 15 drops combined orange and lavender essential oil
- food or soap coloring (optional)
- cute jars
Mixing salt and baking soda
The first step in pretty simple. Mix the soda and salt together in a bowl, and you’re ready for the next step.
Add colour and fragrance
If you chose traditional food coloring, you’ll need about 5 drops. Soap coloring,on the other hand, will be less intense, so you’ll need around 15 drops. You can purchase soap coloring at craft stores.
Pat down the clumps with a spoon and make sure that the color is mixed throughout the salt. Add more coloring if you want your bath salt to look more vibrant.
The next step is adding the fragrance. Add a few drops of esstenial oils of your own choice. Lavender and orange are used in this recipe as this combination appears to be soothing and refreshing.

If you want to mix scents, it’s a good idea to smell both bottles at the same time to check if they go together and create a nice fragrance. If you’re expecting a child, check the labels for information about the use of essential oils for pregnant women or babies under 3 months.
Bottle it and enjoy
If your homemade bath salt is going to be a gift, you can buy special bottles for it. You can also use any cute jars to keep your salt in. You can find both options at craft, hardware, and dollar stores.
Additionally, you can add a few dried flowers to the mix for that special effect. These are available at craft and health food stores.
